Well she wasn't cute enough. And we all know how cute and cuddly authoritarian "there is only one China" rule can be. Now excuse me while I sell them some treasury bonds....
Love your title! In addition to this bit of phoniness, China has admitted that it digitally inserted extra fireworks in the aerial footage from the opening ceremonies that it sent to news organizations around the world. That's fitting for the world's capital of piracy. Meanwhile, news anchors report from Tiananmen Square, which is stained with blood from where tanks rolled over peaceful protesters. I find a large undercurrent of unseemliness about the way China is hosting these Olympics.
