Overheard at Panera...

Three slick-talking multi-level marketing schmucks trying to convince a cash-strapped 18-year-old to ask her ill grandma for $500. What for? "The opportunity of a lifetime," of course.

It's shameless - they have her cornered in the sofa/fireplace area.

"If you work with me, I'll set you up for success."

They are playing her like a fine-tuned violin. Resist, young girl, resist!

Yikes! How did she get into that situation, I wonder?

How old-fashioned and inefficient to be carrying on a scam face-to-face with three people. Don't all modern con artists use the Internet?

There's a funny tv commercial where a guy on a bus is pitching the "just send the money to my foreign bank account" scam to a young woman. The camera pans down to his ratty shoes. The announcer says, "you wouldn't fall for this type of scam in person, so do not fall for it over the Internet." The commercial assumes that no one would be stupid enough to pitch such a scam in person, but I guess the fireside chat guys at Panera didn't get the memo.
